Eight construction workers building an addition on to McDowell High School in Marion, North Carolina were injured when the scaffolding that the workers were standing on collapsed.
The job site accident occurred at around 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, and required the help of more than 70 emergency workers to pull many of the workers from the twisted rubble of the scaffolding.
Two of the workers suffered serious personal injuries in the construction site accident and were airlifted to a nearby hospital’s emergency room. The other six workers injured in the construction site accident suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals.
According to local reports, fifteen workers were on the scaffolding when it collapsed, but some were able to jump to safety on a nearby wall. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has sent a team to investigate the job site accident in accordance with standard procedure.
